We have a lot of exciting newsletters planned for the rest of the year. But before we get there, here's a quick update from Cecil. Let's see if we can meet up at New York Climate Week!

Two major collaborations announced

We just announced collaborations with the IBAT Alliance and the Natural History Museum (NHM) London. This means that Cecil now supports initial screening for nature risk across portfolios and supply chains.

These announcements cap off a huge few months of new datasets available on the platform:

  • The IBAT Alliance's core datasets: IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas, and the World Database on Protected Areas
  • The Natural History Museum's 1 km and 10 km Biodiversity Intactness Index
  • Impact Observatory's 9-class land cover
  • JRC global forest cover and global forest type
  • University of Maryland (GLAD) global forest change
  • Lobelia's surface soil moisture 30 m
  • Planet's 20 m and 1,000 m soil water content

Get started with Cecil today, explore our documentation to learn more about these and other datasets available on the Cecil platform, or join our Slack community to connect with like-minded nature data enthusiasts.

New York Climate Week

We're looking forward to this year's New York Climate Week. Myself, Tom Walker, our Head of Science (tom@cecil.earth), and Connor Jordan, our Strategy & Partnerships Manager (connor@cecil.earth), are in NYC with me. Drop us a line to set up a meeting or say hi!

Here are the events we're speaking at:

AI Explorers Summit 2025

September 21 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Hosted by the Climate Collective, Conservation International, TechChange, and UNDP. Tom will give a short talk about Cecil's role in helping the nature data sector reach scale.

NYCW Climate Tech Kickoff

September 22 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

This event is co-hosted by one of our investors, Superorganism. I'll be talking about our vision for the future.

GeoNYC Relaunch: Climate Week Edition

September 23 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This event brings together people passionate about the power of location data. I'll be giving a lightning talk on understanding nature risk for global supply chains.

Data and Dumplings

September 24 8:30 am - 10:00 am

This is our event! Come by to meet fellow geospatial nature data nerds as we mingle, eat dumplings, and hear from Arbonics, GBIF, and the Natural History Museum (London).

Tech Workshop: Open Data in Applied Risk Analysis

September 24 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This will be a great event for the geospatial community. I'll give a demo Cecil's IBAT collaboration.

Earth Observation for Climate

September 25 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Hosted by TerraWatch Space, this event brings together a variety of folks to explore the role of satellite data in powering climate solutions. I'll be speaking on a forest data panel.
