Soil Water Content 1000 m
This dataset quantifies soil water content (m³/m³) at 1000 m spatial resolution. Data has global coverage and sub-weekly resolution, available from 2002 onwards. Data includes includes pixel-level quality flags to indicate whether an observation has been critically flagged or not.
Frameworks
Use cases
- Drought monitoring and early warning for agricultural supply chains
- Irrigation planning and water stress assessment
- Crop yield risk modelling for commodity exposure
- Reforestation site suitability analysis
Who uses this
Agricultural commodity traders, crop insurers, and ESG analysts monitoring large-scale drought risk use the 1 km global soil water content data for portfolio-wide exposure assessment. The sub-weekly temporal resolution and 20+ year historical record make it valuable for drought indexing, anomaly detection, and correlating soil moisture conditions with historical yield impacts. Climate risk teams use it to stress-test agricultural supply chain exposure under future water stress scenarios.
