Hansen Global Forest Change
This dataset quantifies tree cover (%) in the year 2000, forest gain from 2000 to 2012, and, if present, the year of forest loss from the year 2000 onwards. Data has global coverage at 30 m spatial resolution.
Frameworks
Use cases
- EUDR deforestation due diligence on commodity sourcing parcels
- Carbon stock baselining for voluntary carbon project registration
- Annual biomass monitoring for science-based forest commitments
- GHG inventory reporting with pixel-level uncertainty quantification
Who uses this
EUDR compliance officers at commodity-trading houses, palm oil importers, and soy and cattle processors use the Hansen dataset as a primary deforestation signal on sourcing polygon assessments. Sustainability analysts at financial institutions reference it as a benchmark for deforestation-linked credit risk. Supply chain due diligence consultants use the tree cover and forest loss time series to document deforestation-free claims under EUDR Article 10 requirements.
